Biography
Born in Stockton, California, Daniel Goleman is the originator of the concept of Emotional Intelligence. This idea argues that human emotions like self-awareness, self-discipline, persistence, and empathy are worth more than someone's IQ level when it comes to much of life's major concerns. His book "Emotional Intelligence" has become a veritable classic; a best seller not only in America, but also Europe, Asia, and even Latin America.
Goleman's main concern is that his theories be taught to children, and much of his work is in helping schools around the world. He also lectures for businesses on the need for emotional intelligence in management and how this will only help to ensure success in any business endeavor. Dr. Goleman currently resides in the Berkshires of Massachusetts with his wife Tara Bennett-Goleman, a psychotherapist. LearnOutLoud.com is excited to present almost all of Daniel Goleman's works on audio, most of which are read by the author himself.

To start off with, you will want to listen to "Emotional Intelligence". This must-read argues that our view of human intelligence is far too narrow, ignoring a crucial range of abilities that matter immensely in terms of how we do in life. Drawing on groundbreaking brain and behavioral research, Goleman shows the factors at work when people of high IQ flounder and those of modest IQ do well. These factors add up to a different way of being smart - one he terms "emotional intelligence."
As a supplement to augment his first book, there's "Working With Emotional Intelligence". Here Dr. Goleman shows why emotional intelligence has become the new yardstick of success for CEOs and junior hires alike. Drawing on both unparalleled access to business leaders and cutting-edge research, he shows that star performance in every field depends more on emotional intelligence than on I.Q. or technical skills.
Finally there's "Destructive Emotions" in which Dr. Goleman takes part in a distinguished panel discussion of recent findings that debate an exhilarating range of topics. These include what role destructive emotions play in human evolution, whether or not these emotions are "hardwired" in our bodies and whether they are universal. These are only but a few of the many topics talked about revolving around the universal problem human beings have with darker emotions.
