Say It Plain: A Century of Great African-American Speeches

February is Black History Month, and to celebrate we're featuring this hour-long audio documentary from American RadioWorks which is an excellent introduction to great African American speakers of the last century. In chronological order it covers speeches all the way back to Booker T. Washington's address at the Atlanta Cotton States & International Exposition up to Barack Obama's recent speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

The hour-long documentary features excerpts of the speeches with interviews and commentary on their significance, and if you liked a particular speech American RadioWorks offers each speech individually as streaming audio so you can listen to it in its entirety. This audio documentary is free to listen to on streaming audio from the American RadioWorks site.

LearnOutLoud.com is very pleased to present this resource of audio and video titles about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Because Dr. King was such a great orator, his ideas are best experienced through the many speeches and sermons he gave throughout his lifetime. His speeches serve as milestones in the civil rights movement, and their passionate cry for social and racial justice is just as relevant today as it was in King's lifetime.
