Description
Charles Murray was interviewed about his life and work. He also responded to telephone calls, faxes, and electronic mail from viewers. A video was shown of Mr. Murray in his study at his home in Burkittsville, Maryland, as he talked about his writing process. Mr. Murray is the author of eight books and is a W.H. Brady Scholar at the American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C. He is best known for his controversial 1994 book The Bell Curve: Intelligence and Class Structure in American Life and his 1984 book about welfare reform, Losing Ground: American Social Policy, 1950-1980. His latest book is Human Accomplishment: The Pursuit of Excellence in the Arts and Sciences, 800 B.C. to 1950. Charles Murray was a Peace Corps volunteer in rural Thailand in the late 1960s. He has a B.A. in history from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
