LearnOutLoud.com Review
This short documentary from NobelPrize.org examines the mystery of memory and the discoveries that have been made regarding it throughout the history of neuroscience. It starts out with a lady named Jill Price who has hyperthymesia and is able to remember every day of her life since she was fourteen years old. This brain mystery is a jumping off point for looking into what we currently know about memory, from the discovering of neurons to the brain regions responsible for our memories. The documentary also briefly touches on posttraumatic stress disorder and the way in which memory and traumatic events are linked, and how PTSD can be treated in relation to memory using such methods as exposure therapy. Featured prominently throughout the documentary is American neuropsychiatrist and Nobel laureate Dr. Eric Kandel who’s research into memory storage has been critical into recent memory discoveries. Dr. Kandel ends the documentary by stressing that there is a long way to go in solving the many mysteries of memory.
