Islam: A Religion of Violence Or Peace? by Ayaan Hirsi Ali on Free Online Video

In this debate hosted by Intelligence Squared, advocates from 3 separate spheres argue whether or not Islam is a religion that inherently encourages violence. On one side, Ayan Hirsi Ali, herself someone that grew up in a Muslim household only to reject her familyвЂ™s beliefs, argues that itвЂ™s time to reject the laws laid down in the Quran itself. On the other end, Imam Faisal Rauf argues that interpretation is the problem, and cites a long tradition of Islamic scholarship that has been corrupted by modern political ideas, such as the concept of an Islamic State. Lying somewhere in between is former extremist Maajid Nawaz, who agrees with Ali on the call for political and social reform, but is not as convinced that Islam is any more violent than other, comparable religious traditions.
