LearnOutLoud.com Review
One of the father's of existential philosophy, Jean Paul Sarte had an enormous impact on post-World War II intellectual life in France and beyond. In this documentary comprised of archived footage from his life, friends, contemporaries, and modern scholars discuss his life and concepts. During an era when accepted cultural norms were being demolished, Sarte argued that human beings are now obligated to take total responsibility for their lives. Sarte's definition of freedom came with an abiding suspicion of any social or political system that reinforced control, and this documentary does an excellent job of demonstrating how Sarte tried to live a life that adhered to his principles.
