Decades ago, Bill Gates gave this interview on Fresh Air with Terry Gross. At the time, Windows 95 had just exploded onto the computer scene, and Gates was there to talk about it and about his then-new book The Road Ahead. I can recall listening to this audiobook on cassette decades ago. In the book, Gates presents ideas as to where computers and the Internet are headed. Listening to this retrospective interview is quite amusing. At the time, Microsoft was under heavy scrutiny for its antitrust practices, which seem quaint in comparison to the global dominance of today's tech giants. Terry Gross asks him quite a few questions about the antitrust issues since Windows was becoming so dominant and Gates was one of the wealthiest individuals in the world at that time. Gates also talks about a day when audio, video, and text would be delivered rapidly to our computers, and that day certainly came. It's an interesting 20-minute interview that will get you thinking about how far computers and the Internet have come in the past decades.
