LearnOutLoud.com Review
Dr. Andrew Weil has been promoting integrative medicine for decades, combining the best of traditional and alternative medicine. In this interview, he discusses his 1995 book
Spontaneous Healing
, which focuses on the body's innate ability to heal itself. Where most traditional Western medicine centers on combating disease when it arrives, Weil wants doctors and patients to shift their focus towards preventative medicine and treating health more holistically. He defines what spontaneous healing is and some of the conditions he feels would benefit from being treated with alternative health before traditional medicine is sought out. Dr. Weil also highlights the importance of the mind-body connection and why the placebo effect is so powerful. Interviewer Terry Gross says she's skeptical by nature, so she asks Weil some good skeptical questions throughout the conversation.
