In this episode of Firing Line, William F. Buckley, Jr. questions Tom Wolfe about his book Radical Chic and Mau-mauing the Flak Catchers. In the book Wolfe covered a fundraiser for the Black Panther Party at Leonard Bernstein's apartment. The book was met with much critical backlash which Buckley quotes from and Wolfe responds to. Wolfe argues that he attempted to be an observer to a phenomena in social status where New York intellectuals found it fashionable to align themselves with political revolutionaries. Wolfe encourages writers to go out and observe the world for themselves without any sort of preconceived ideology when practicing journalism.
