Description
Lawrence Ferlinghetti, a prominent voice of the Beat movement, has written poetry, translation, fiction, theater, art criticism, film narration, and essays. Born in Yonkers in 1919, he served in the U.S. Navy in World War II taking part in the Normandy invasion and visiting Nagasaki just weeks after the bomb was dropped. He received a Master's degree from Columbia University in 1947 and a Doctorate de l'Université de Paris (Sorbonne) in 1950.
