Podcaster Dan Carlin gives an inspiring interview on The New Golden Age of Oral Historical Storytelling in the age of podcasts. He is the host of the popular podcast Dan Carlin's Hardcore History. Carlin started podcasting back in 2005 at about the same time we started LearnOutLoud.com, and he shares the same enthusiasm as we do for the potential of learning and storytelling on audio. He separates himself from the strictly fact-based historians who are often dry, and prefers the storytelling historians who get people fascinated in history in the first place. He enjoys putting his audience in a point of view of history as it happened and attempts to capture how people actually experienced historical events. Carlin talks about how he was happy to get out of traditional radio which requires you to pander to a broad audience versus podcasting where you can do deep dives into niches of many subjects. Podcasting has allowed for niche audiences of all kinds to get their fix with podcasts on topics that you would never hear about in the days of traditional broadcasting. Carlin discusses the difficulty of monetization for the podcasting world which he feels is still in its infancy.
