LearnOutLoud.com Review
Bestselling author Sebastian Junger sits down with New York Times columnist Bob Herbert to discuss Junger's book
War
and his Oscar-nominated documentary based on the book
Restrepo
. In the book and the film he chronicles a year in the life of a platoon in the Korengal valley in Afghanistan from June 2007 to June 2008. In this talk Junger tells many stories about the soldiers and their day to day experiences and the emotions they felt from the excitement of combat to the boredom and fear of waiting for the next attack. In his writings Junger tried to remain apolitical focusing solely on the experiences of the troops he was with. In the Q&A Junger does provide some his own personal beliefs about the mission that the troops were fighting and the Afghanistan war as a whole.
