This sweeping course traces England’s dynamic rise to "great power" status over the course of 229 years from the Tudor monarchy to the beginning of the 18th century.
You cover the major political, social, and cultural events of these centuries and the key figures behind them, such as the Wars of the Roses, Henry VIII, Mary Tudor, Elizabeth I, the Spanish Armada, the English Civil Wars, the execution of Charles I, the Glorious Revolution of 1688, King William’s War, Queen Anne’s War, the Scientific Revolution, Newton, Locke, Swift, and Hogarth.
The course also contrasts the physical and social realities of England during this period with the very different experiences of Wales, Scotland, and Ireland.
