Sonia Shah presents her findings from her book
Pandemic: Tracking Contagions, from Cholera to Ebola and Beyond
. She provides an overview of the many reasons that pandemics are likely today such as human populations living close to new biodiversity, the decline of species caused by global warming, global air travel, and the increased use of antibiotics. These and many other factors are causing infectious diseases to be more likely to become pandemics. Shah briefly covers Zika, Ebola, cholera, and many other epidemics that have spread through populations recently. She also talks about hot spots where pandemics could arise from. This is a very informative lecture delivered a few years before the coronavirus pandemic.
