Filmmaker George Lucas was interviewed on Fresh Air in 2010 to discuss his book George Lucas's Blockbusting: A Decade-by-Decade Survey of Timeless Movies Including Untold Secrets of Their Financial and Cultural Success. The book takes a look at 300 financially or critically successful films and breaks down their production, distribution, exhibition, marketing, and technology. Lucas talks about some of the films that were included and why he chose to create the book.

The interview then turns to Lucas's filmmaking career as he talks about creating classic movies like American Graffiti (1973) and Star Wars (1977). He tells of the first reaction to showing Star Wars to filmmaking friends Steven Spielberg and Brian De Palma. Lucas also talks about how he infused mythology into the Star Wars story and why it has held such psychological resonance with audiences over the years.
