Moved by a lifelong love of the Tao Te Ching, novelist and poet Ursula K. Le Guin has been working on her own rendition of the text for more than 40 years. Now she brings to life this greatest of Chinese classics on Lao Tzu: Tao Te Ching. "I wanted to make a completely personal version, in the poetic vocabulary of the time, for my own contemporaries," she says. "Lao Tzu is direct, unpredictable, passionate, and exact. His is a living voice, and I wanted it to be heard as such."On this live studio performance, Le Guin narrates her moving translation with a rich and evocative soundtrack of Tibetan gongs, bells, bowls, frame drum, and bamboo shakuhachi flutes. Together, voice and music shape the meaning: immediate, powerful, and refreshing. Narrated by Ursula K. Le Guin. Original music by Todd Barton.
