Description

The Chuzzlewit family has problems. It's full of greedy, grasping members, and young Martin is deemed the worst of the lot by his grandfather, who turns him out into the world almost penniless. He must travel to America to make a name for himself, but as an architect for a fraudulent enterprise, Martin loses everything - and contracts a deadly fever. Returning to health and England, he is a changed man. In addition to a showcase for Dickens's brilliant characters, this tale was his indictment against the provincialism of Americans - as well as the selfish greed of the English gentry.
