Description

Pip, a humble boy, learns that he is to come into a mysterious fortune. He sets off for London with the firm intention of becoming a gentleman and basking in the result of his "great expectations." However, his life is much different from his expectations of it, and financial ruin almost sends him to prison. Pip's growth from a presumptuous boy to a man of depth and character has been thought Dickens's greatest literary achievement. Here it is expertly rendered into spoken word by Academy Award-winning actor Paul Scofield.
