Description
On January 18 and 19, 2005, Secretary of State nominee Condoleezza Rice appeared before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. She faced tough questions from Democratic senators regarding the war in Iraq, 9/11, and the U.S. trade deficit. Born a minister's daughter in racially segregated Alabama in 1954, Rice entered college at 15 and by 26 had earned a doctorate in international affairs. In 1989 Rice joined the staff of the National Security Council in the first Bush administration.
